Ahmed Faraz is in stable condition: Ifti Nasim
Legendary poet Ahmed Faraz is in a critical but stable condition at a Chicago hospital. Faraz’s close friend Ifti Nasim called the Editor-in-Chief of Sada-e-Watan Zafar Hussain and informed him on his mobile that the 76-year-old poet's vital signs are normal. "Faraz is alive and is being treated by seven specialists," he said, adding: "We do expect him to recover but it will take a long time." Mr. Ifti Nasim also sent a photo of Faraz to Sada-e-Watan which was taken 24 hours before Faraz was admitted to the hospital. Mr. Ifti Nasim called on the Pakistan-India people to pray for the recovery of Ahmed Faraz, a national asset & great person of the country.

Finally the government of Pakistan has started moving. Remember the protest in my column # 29 about the silence of Government about Faraz Sahib. Lots of newspaper and TV shows picked that protest up and talked about it. I got a call from Dr. Aman Rashid, Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago, a fine gentleman, to go to hospital with him. He was taking a bouquet of flowers representing Prime Minister of Pakistan, Senator Asif Zardari and High Commissioner of Pakistan Hussain Haqqani. We were greeted by Dr. Tahir Rohail, Shibli Faraz, Nazr Naqvi, Mansoor Shah and Dr Murtaza Arain. After an initial conversation we went to Faraz Sahib's room. He was in sedation. One of the visitors prayed for his health. Then we went in Dr Mrtaza Arain's office and talked about the expenses of Faraz Sahib's stay in the hospital. Dr Aman Rashid will pass this information on to the Government of Pakistan. Faraz Sahib's health is the same. Lets hope for the best.
