Election tribunal orders re-polling in PS-114 Karachi
KARACHI: An election tribunal in Karachi ordered re-election in PS-114 after the results were challenged by a defeated candidate, Express News reported on Friday.
Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) candidate Rauf Siddiqi had challenged the victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Irfanullah Marwat.
Siddiqi had accused Marwat of rigging the elections held on May 11, 2013.
The Election Commission of Pakistan will announce the date for re-election. The PML-N candidate can challenge the tribunal’s decision in a higher court.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) had informed the election tribunal that 17,504 votes cast in the PS-114 were bogus as they were either cast by someone else or had invalid national identity card numbers.

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Federation and Chairman Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) over a petition of the broadcasters’ body.
A two-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk and Justice Ameer Hani Muslim heard the appeal against the Islamabad High Court’s July 15 verdict, whereby the court struck down the appointment of Pervez Rathore as acting Pemra chairman as well as appointment of Kamaluddin Tipu as Pemra member.
The federation, however, filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the decision.
During the proceeding on Monday, the court issued notices to federation and other parties after Pakistan Broadcasters Association’s (PBA’s) counsel Irfan Qadir appeared before the court and pleaded to become a party in the case.
He contended that Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) has been the representative body of all television channels across the country hence if the court passed any adverse order it could affect the broadcasting body’s interest.
